John 7 – Important Questions to Answer

1. Where is Jesus? John 7:1-13 (vs.11)
   • Jesus never pandered to the demand of popularity or position. He didn’t show up based on others’ demands.
2. How does Jesus know so much? John 7:14-18 (vs.15)
   • Spiritual knowledge is in direct proportion to a submissive will. Romans 12:1-3
3. Who wants to kill Jesus? John 7:19-24 (vs.19)
   • Self-righteousness desires to kill Jesus and ignore grace.  Don’t be a grace killer.
4. Who is Jesus really? John 7:25-31
   • An understanding of Passover and Festival of Shelters answers the questions. Jesus is both Provider and Deliverer.
5. Will you come to Jesus? John 7:32-39
   • The invitation is for the thirsty to come.  If you come you receive living water which is the Holy Spirit.
   • What keeps people from coming and believing?
6. Do you believe his prophetic credentials? John 7:40-52
   • The question that arises, as to who Jesus was, is based on the geographical location of where he was from. 
   • Both locations as to where Jesus was from fulfilled in O.T. prophecy of the Messiah. Matthew 2:5-6, Matthew 2:23, Isaiah 11:1-2
   • Jesus was born in Bethlehem (House of Bread) and grew up in Nazareth (Branch town)

1. Jesus is Our Food from Heaven John 6:25-34
   • What food are we working for?
   • Sermon on the Mount – Matthew 6:25-34
   • Paul’s haunting words – Philippians 3:18-19
   • Jesus’s food – John 4:31-34
   • Feed my lambs – John 21:15-19
   • The “work” that earns eternal life is belief into Jesus.
2. Jesus is the One to Be Taken In – John 6:52-59
   • If Christ is in you, you have eternal life.
   • We are to “feed” on Jesus
   • Life is of the Sprit not the flesh — John 1:11-13
3. Jesus’s Words Offend Many – John 6:60-70
   • He offends the pride we depend on.
   • He offends our terms of who He is supposed to be.
   • He draws a line between his chosen and Satan’s tools.

Conclusion: 

• What is our food each day?
• What does His choice of you mean to you? 
• Do you have Christ in you?

The Christ Who Came

• Matthew:  The One Who Fulfills
  • Matthew 13:16-17
  • The genealogy: To Abraham the one promised to bless the world.
  • Eleven Times: “This took place that it might be fulfilled.”  Matthew 5: 17-18, 20

• Mark:  The Suffering Servant
  • 3 things about Jesus, Mark 8:27-38
    1. Who He was: The suffering servant and Son of Man (Daniel 7:13-14)
    2. What He came to do: Go to a cross
    3. What He requires of us: A willingness to die to self and follow.  Galatians 2:19-20

• Luke:  The Savior of All 
  • Luke 2:30-32
  • Salvation in Luke’s gospel focuses on 2 things
    1. Forgiveness of sin (our past)
    2. New life through the Spirit (present and future)

• John:  The Incarnate Word – John 1:14
  • He became man and dwelt among us.
  • The emphasis is on signs and their purpose of teaching.
  • In Christ 7 things linked to 7 miracles.
    1. Christ ushers in a new beginning: water into wine.
    2. Christ has the power to give life: the official’s son
    3. Christ has the power to judge: the lame man.
    4. Christ can satisfy what we are really hungering and thirsting for if we would let him:  Feeding the 5000.
    5. Christ has the authority over creation:  Christ walking on the water.
    6. Christ lights our way as the light of the world: Healing the blind.
    7. Christ is the resurrection and the life:  Resurrection of Lazarus.

Conclusion:  What do you believe about Christ?

A three-fold test –

3 liars:

1. Whoever denies that Jesus is the Eternal Christ that came in the flesh is a liar. 1 John 2:22
2. Whoever claims to have fellowship with God and walks in darkness is a liar. 1 John 1:6
3. Whoever says he loves God but hates his brother is a liar.  1 John 4:20

So, do we believe all we see about Christ?

4. Jesus has multiple witnesses to who he is and his authority.

What is our response to Jesus’s call for authority over our lives?
